The fact that the chair in the first youtube video was powered by a motor was pretty useless.

The same can be done by basically building a stick onto the bottom of your joystick and mounting it on the same kind of frame.

You could do it for less than $50... probably much less.

Carld2002, there is a big difference between the two. The motorised one is taking actual flight data from the sim and using washout routines to simulate G-forces.

For example, if you stall the plane, no matter where you put the stick, the chair would point nose down.

In terms of immersivity, that is a big improvement on the old stick and pivot.

I saw that but....
I don't stall

Seriously though in cost terms, i'd take the mechanical one.

For anyone who is interested I wrote an article about how I constructed the chair. It was published in the July issue of "Computer Pilot" magazine.

Third article from the top. Just if anyone is interested.

Maintenance fees, airport fees, and hangar fees would add up fairly quickly.

But the overhaul to make it airworthy would be like 100,000.

I sit down, bring out the keyboard and play.

If I'd play games with a helmet, dressed in camo uniform with all the pouches and gear strapped to me, I might as well join the real army
