No, racism is a discrimination that is based on race. It is wrong because the thing that people don't like (a person's race) is largely irrelevent to their ability to be likeable. Same thing with all forms of discrimination. It is wrong to deny work to a 22 year old man in a resturant on the grounds that he is young and you don't like young people. It is not wrong to deny work to a 22 year old man if the job requires that the employee travel to schools recounting his experiences in WW2.
New players who come to the mod and expect people to explain multiple features of the mod over the text chat in the middle of the game are annoying because it demonstrates a lack of respect for other people's time. Especially since other options, such as the manual and VOIP are available to them. I still will take the time to explain things if it's just a quick question, but there's a point where it crosses the threshold of annoyance. More annoying are people that come, play a few minutes, and then shit all over innovative features like the kit request. Especially annoying are people that spam threads with things completely irrelavent to the discussion at hand, such as marvelling at their post count or advertising for another thread they've started. Hating someone because he's new is not right. Getting pissed off at the substantial section of the new player population that is extremely smacktarted is just common sense. |

I think its pretty easy to ignore the idiots that spam the chat lines just to be an ass...heck go ahead and yell at them, we dont want them anyways. But I wouldn't let their actions dictate how you react to a normal noob. I hardly ever notice the chat lines in the first place and rarely see questions posted. If it annoys anyone just ignore the noob then...no need to take valuable play time and say STFU noob. If someone is spamming the VIOP, tell him to stop...if he doesn't your SL will kick him out, I've never even seen this happen though and I play quite a bit. Where I see noobs is like, guys not knowing how to lead a squad but still trying it out before watching the videos. Even then Squad Leadership isn't abuot knowing how to drop a rally...its way more than that. I think the veteran players owe it to the mod creators to help out the new recruits though and welcome them in, its really not that hard. I personally dont like how many poor squad leaders there are and lack of commander...thats an issue.

First time I played, on Muttrah, I thought rally points 1 & 2 were the capture points we had to take, in that order. I got those backpacks real good.

Lol...ah thats good man, yeah I was the guy trying to spawn on them forever...then getting sent back 10 miles to the homebase going "*#&^$&*(#^#^" I still see people that dont know you can spawn on other peoples Rallys (your team must have a rally as well though). | |

I have yet to see a veteran player say "STFU noob", or "RTFM". I've seen some say "there's a manual at realitymod.com". But never what you're describing MasterShake. I think that that kind of sentiment comes from relatively new players themselves. If you think that we here on the forums (and by this I mean regular forums users) exhibit that attitude, I'd like you to give some examples.

Don't give any examples... Settle it via PM, as this will erupt a flame war... I also don't appreciate the tone in here, or the fact that some of you think that you should do the moderators job for them. If you cant handle the way we moderate, take it up VIA PM! The next time I have to say this, expect a lock. End of discussion.

Well I can't take it anymore I have to say something. First off let me say I am a veteran player of Bf1942,BF Vietnam,BF2,2142 and all the expansion packs and I have extensively played all the mods for all those games including DC Realism which Project Reality has greatly exceeded.
I agree it can be very frustrating for experienced players to have to deal with rookie players constantly asking 20 questions during a round but we were all rookies/noobs at one time. I have answered more then my share of questions over the years in Battlefield and those players were very appreciative of that. If someone asks a question you just answer it to the best of your ability. You don't blow up at them because then they get frustrated and say screw this I am out of here. That has a trickle down effect next thing you know you go from 50 servers populated with Project Reality to 12 and of those 12 you have 3 that have 20 to 40 people in them. You want to kill Project Reality keep up your attitude of THIS IS OUR MOD GO AWAY but wait your mod has already taken a hit because people have left and moved on to other mods or other games. For all Battlefield 2's greatness it fails in comparison to BF1942 that community was strong people helped one another because they loved the game. Now it’s the mentality OUR MOD OUR WAY if not kiss off. It’s because of that mentality you have lost myself and enough of my friends to fill 3 squads. This attitude DEV’s and PR Elite of not helping people trying to play the mod has ruined it. Desert Conflict is gaining in popularity everyday why, people are having fun they are not getting frustrated by people bitching at them for asking questions on how to play because they are a NOOB. Admin’s of DCON servers are not being bullied into how to run a server why because DCON dev’s know it takes people to keep a mod going and Admins can help by making things interesting. Anyone remember the mods Operation Peace Keeper 2,Point of Existence 2, USI where are those servers now there use to be dozens of servers now but a handful why people left because they lost interest. If the whole point of the DEV's was to make a mod for themselves and the PR Elite they should have kept it private and not released it to the public. Of course then you can't complain about NOOBS playing because only the DEV's and PR Elite are playing it. My friends and I enjoy Project Reality from a gameplay aspect and from a technical aspect it’s incredible what can be done with the Battlefield engine and DEV’s Project Reality have done a great job and I respect that. The problem is the attitude. I wish you well in your future releases I just hope you have players around to populate the servers to help keep Battlefield alive because that’s really the only thing that matters. |
