Server IP:

ok.. i am a noob to set up servers. but i tried to set up a small prm server. and make it to go out on the internet. but the only IP i can set it up with, is my internal ip. and then it works. can external users log in to this ip? tried to set up with my external ip. but then it just wont work. the server prog wont go as "usual" when i go with the internal local ip. any ideas?

Well, how is your network set up? If you are using a router you will need to forward various ports to your server for people to access it outside of your local network. Google around. There are tons of web pages on how to do this, and I'm sure even how to set up BF2 servers.

well.. i have a router. at home. the server is running at my own pc. no firewall is set up. the tutorial i found on the net told me it would work if i havent set up a firewall. but still it wont work. have tried diffrent IPs.

Yeah. If you use a router I would recommend reading up on network structure. It can be a real pain to know why games and stuff aren't working, when it's a simple networking issue or something. You can actually do some really neat stuff like making one-way traffic between various local networks and things fairly easy. (Like having a server subnetwork that can't affect your other computers if it gets infected)

hm.. well. i hope i can get this up and running some time. its only a test server anyways.. not a public one. but since i dont understand anything myself. i hope some of those who are running a server can give a helping hand. i have a speedtouch 585i router with wireless and cabel lan. have never poked it before. so i am a noob :S
