What's Your Outlook on Squads...?

I know when DICE/EA first mentioned the ability to form squads, everyone thought it would either work or not work is what it seemed like. And yes, it was an excellent idea, but did it work? So far from what I've experinced playing BF2, the answer is YES For the most part, it seems like the success or failure of a squad really depends on the squad leader. I've noticed that when the leader takes control, the members of his squad will more or less follow his orders. For example, today I played with a group of guys in a squad of I think 5 or 6, all but one of us had a mic. And man did we cause damage, reason being, teamwork. Almost always if one of us got critically wounded, he was revived within seconds by a fellow squad medic. All of squad tended to stay near each other, usually within 100ft diameter. The way the mics are setup work excellent in my opinion, being able to communicate quickly within the squad gave us a huge advantage over the opponents, all in all, from what I've seen so far, squads are going to become a huge factor in BF2. Not to mention it's just awsome looking to your left and right and seeing several of your squad guys, then looking forward and seeing a little enemy running out in the open Light'em up.

So what do you guys think of the BF2 Squads???
Also feel free to share any strategies/tips/or even good stories...

When squads work, the game is at its best, for me at least. I had one of my best experiences on the public servers the other night. Forgotten the name of the map, (the urban map where USMC control all but one base). I was a USMC squad leader and had a full squad, some with mics, some not (mine's 9 years old (!) and knackered, ordered a new one.). We set up ambushes for the tanks, apcs and troops trying to enter the city, parked a humvee behind a wall with the mg covering the approach, put mines down on the road, C4ed the first flag and had a couple of anti tank guys on the flanks, with two medics keeping us alive and a commander dropping us a supply box. We won all three rounds... They stayed with me and worked together while almost everyone else was running around like chickens with their heads cut off.
Despite the fact I couldn't talk (but responded on text to voice), a couple of the guys where French speakers, one was a squeeky American kid (definitely not 16+!), an older American guy and a couple of British people, it all came together because they were enthusiastic, and I was doing a good job I hope.
A good commander, who may not necessarily give the squads orders, but will at least supply them when asked, and suppress the enemy with artillery, plus full squads who keep together, do make this game. Without the squad system, it would not be half as good as it is.

When it works you can win the day, if not you are better of finding a nother server

Is one of those things where it either works or it dosent. To many times i have seen people on a 64 player server and one squard... i mean ??

I really want to try a clan match or training cause i think it there it really comes in to its own. VoIP, sqards, commander. On the FF servers it works 4 out of 10 if your luckey. I always join or create a squard as the first thing i do after picking my kit. When i play now i try to pick a Multiplay clan server as most of these people are renting a server and really wants to get the best out of it. Just my take on it

The squads are a good way to let people play in a team type situation. When I initially heard of the squad leader being a spawn point I was scared to hell. But it seems to really work.

My biggest complaint is how many people dont use the squad, or the VIOP. The other thing that always amuses me is when there are 4 squads of 6 people and a few more of just one.

squads need these two things to work right:

90% or squad needs voip

100% of the squad needs to be mature, and thinking, not getting pissed off, and actually following too or giving out commands.

Best squad experience I had was when we would get in a helicopter, have the pilot drop us off a lil ways away from our target, then we would commence our infiltration.

We got so many flags that way.

Yeah that always seems to work the best.

Anyway, I wonder if PR is going to keep the squad leader s as spawn points, If PR makes it so you can not spawn at capturable outposts out in the middle of the battle I think it would be good to keep the squad leader as a spawn.

Now in BF2 the squad can easily become seperated for many reasons. If there are not spawns for the capturale base spawns but still squad leader spawns I think it would be very effective in sticking with your squad.
