Comms after death.

Should people be able to relay info after they have died (?); it is often used
to inform the rest of the squad who/what killed them and where they are or where they are going... these comms are great but technically - very unrealistic... shouldn't their VOIP just be silenced until they respawn (?); then they can sing about it all they want, at least 31 seconds later...

Unless you wanted to introduce a "Medium" class equipped with a crystal ball and tarot cards... or a pair of crystal balls... and $3.95 a minute - Mobile phones extra... maybe... for comms with the dead.

remote-viewing/remote-viewers and other black projects notwithstanding

id rather like to just see a 'fade to black' screen when you are killed.

this would get rid of the guy telling you exactly how the enemy are doing things...

critically wounded can stay the way it is now (staring straight into the sky)

Yeah. I'd like to see a couple things like that.

1) No comms when dead. Not even typing. Unless all flags are gone and you're waiting for that last jerk to kill himself.

2) Fade to black when dead.

3) Ability to shoot critically wounded guys in the head to end 'em.

Tonight I was playing on TG, and because it isn't AAS I was in the rather unfortunate circumstances on several occasions of having to take on entire squads alone. I maintained a 26:10 K: D ratio, however, because I'd use guerilla tactics everytime this happened. But I was never able to completely wipe out the squad, because they'd seem to find me no matter where I hid after a while. I'm sure that this is because of the after-death comms.

absolutely, you should not be able to talk or type while you're dead, you get 25 seconds to explain in detail where the asshole is that shot you too that's just icing on the cake

I would like this feature too, but I'm not sure the bf2 engine can handle it. Devs?

We actually did this in Obsidian Edge (a mod for FarCry, see my sig)
Farcry doesn't have VIOP, but our coder made it so when you died, you couldn't talk to anyone except spectators and other dead players.
We did it mainly because we wanted the game to be a last man standing with everyone only having 1 life. When you died, you went spectator and watched over your other teammates shoulder to see how the round ended.
Problem was, it gave you a better perspective, and you could tell your guy where to look, so the no typing fixed it, until we realized most people use Ventrillo or Teamspeak anyway, so point of the story is, there are ways around anything.
If you block the VIOP, the clan guys can have a pretty good advantage.

Great thread.

The easy thing to do would be to fade to black.

The vic already doesn not know the following:

A. What type of weapon got them
B. Who got them.
These two indicators are great for communicating from the dead.

Add

C. Fade to black and they will not be able to relay live intell from the underworld.

Fade to black is needed. It is easy and cheap.

@JP*wasteland.soldier

nothing like ambushing a squad on the move. Well done.
With the vanillia way of letting them know of what weapon and person killed them, they would have gotten to you sooner. Instead with PR, they may have thought an entire fire team or squad was out there in the bush.

Good gameplay from a good mod.

the reasons why shooting critically wounded guys in the head is a bad idea has been discussed before, but Sandy_Beret is right, the silence needed for comms on death is something that needs to be fixed,

fuzzhead and wasteland, yep... fade to black a must.

Of course if they do it really right, perhaps people should roleplay the screams into the mic's too as they slowly count-down to zero when critically injured.

This would be very critical in attracting more people who seek "covert" simulation gameplay. I and a few others I know are just waiting for a realistic game where you can be covert and realistic. Silenced weapons, no underworld reporting, and a good 3 man fireteam = superiority.

Imagine going around the long way, going deep behind enemy lines and pushing up one enemy at a time from the rear. You take out one in the back, and the person a little bit in front of him has NO IDEA.. he didn't hear any gunshots.. now he's next. You do this to 3 or 4 people then they turn around to 4 dead bodies and.. "where'd my squad go????"

Now he's alone, very scared, and you're already long gone.

If you shoot somebody in the head does it kill them or critically wound them? I think headshots should not be recoverable.

If you ask me what I do for a living I will lie to you.
Don't make me lie.

a headshot victim cannot be revived but you cant headshot a critically wounded soldier

and rifle squads don't/rarely use suppressed weapons.
