Arrow Universal teamwork-oriented Player Tag "#"

After some discussion, a group of people came with the following tag:

#

Now, you must be asking yourself, "what is this tag"?

This tag (#) comes together with the name of the player that wishes to use this tag.

This means that we are teamwork-oriented.

WE ARE NOT A CLAN. That means we don't get together for scrims, we don't necessarily play in the same squad, nor do we have the obligation to do so.

But, what does "being teamwork-oriented" mean?

That by no means means that we are that kind of players that are dead serious about the game which results in us not laughing at jokes or not "having fun". This also doesn't mean we don't like to, sometimes, do things differently, like being in a squad (or even leading it) that's trying to sneak into a cache instead of organizing the entire team to do so.

The best definition we got so far of what does this tag represents for a player is:

"I'm not a F-tard."

So, if you see someone using this tag, you can be sure you can trust them.

(Note: this tag also by no means declare that we are "perfect" at what we are doing, but just that we won't ruin whatever we have our hands on. What I believe represents best what this tag means is that we, if we are playing infantry, won't get that m4rksm4n or sniper0z kit in an infantry squad without asking the SL's permition. If we are piloting choppers, we won't waste it like we meant it. Armors, cars, everything else.)

Now, you might be asking yourself, "but... who are these guys? Who do they think they are to create such a tag?"

Well, we are just some random average PR players. Some are in clans, some are not. I'm not. We just had this idea. If you don't want to use this tag, then don't. If you don't want to trust the tag-wearers, then don't.

I tried to sum up what does this tag represent. If you want to use it, feel free. But please, use it ONLY if you are going to not be a stupid player/gameplay ruiner.

We've already got some people using this tag. We expect this idea to grow - if the Community accepts it - mainly through word-of-mouth in-game or through this thread. If, for example, you like this idea and you have a good round with a player, tell him about this tag, so people know that he won't ruin the gameplay for the squad by taking the sniper kit and lonewolfing, or one-manning a tank and hitting a friendly mine on purpose, or getting in the attack huey without knowing how to use it.

We are not a clan - that means we don't have a leader, nor do we even know eachother well. That's the actual point of this tag: even without knowing the person, you know you can trust her. That, of course, doesn't mean we dislike playing with each other. You might actually run into some very cool people that use this tag!

If you got any questions about this, feel free to ask any tag-wearer.

We used to have a lengthier tag version (! for infantry, > for armor and + for air) to players interested in specific roles. In the end, it didn't create the desire effect - what really matters is the # which means teamwork-oriented. Therefore, we'll try to keep it simple. Also, some people were having issues adding the prefix in-game, so we just figured it would be best for everyone to keep it simple, if wished. Of course, if you still wish to use it, go ahead.

P.P.S. We created this thread here because we wanted people to know what this tag means - and invite them to wear it if they want it.

We didn't create this in General Discussion because we didn't want to attract very new players. THAT DOES NOT MEAN we don't like new players. Of course we do. Afterall, we are the kind of people that wouldn't mind teaching a new player the nuts and bolts of the game. But we just want people to first learn what the game is about and how it works before they can say "I ain't a smacktard".

The "Tales From The Front", we believe, was the best place to do this thread also because this isn't a clan - you don't even have to define this as a group - just a tag. Since there is no "tag section" of the forums, we thought this was a good place, rather than the "Clans" section. And we believe that, on average, only the players that are more used to the game visit this section. Of course there are exceptions, but you get the point

See you all in the battlefield!

How to add this tag?

The easiest way is to put it in the "Prefix" box on top of the login ("connection") screen.

If that doesn't work, try going to:

Documents > Battlefield 2 > Profiles > Global and editing the 2nd line between the " ".

(Quick NOTE: Depending on how the community accepts this idea, we were cogitating the idea of asking this to be sticky-fied... But that depends on the near future.)

If you don't want to read the entire thread, here is the summary:

This tag (#) basically says about the player "I am not a F-tard".

We are not the kind of people that will ruin the gameplay for the squad or for the team.

But this tag means, I AM NOT AN F-TARD, I use teamwork the way it is meant to be used, and I like to play project reality.
(Note: that, of course, does not mean we won't use mumble on mumble-enforced servers such as PRTA, just stating the obvious to prevent future conflict).

Usually I help the guy out 2-3 times and then I say that after this great round which I am enjoying because he is learning so fast he should quit the game for half an hour, make himself a cup of tea and read the manual in detail to be prepared for more difficult matches.

That usually gives em enough motivation. Had people grabt their old mic out and restart the game to be able to communicate properly.

Absolutely love new guys.

This is not a clan.
It is a group of people who intend to use this # tag as a way to identify players with intentions mentioned in the first post of this thread.
This is not a "super group" or "special rights" group.
You have no special authority over anyone.
You have no authority over server admins.

We can not ban you from using the tag, but if someone does complain, you may read the reason why here, or hear from others that do.

Flame wars are not acceptable. Not here in this thread, nor in game (specifically in team/global chat).

Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple!

What does #[TMP] mean then :P
I guessing something to do with nuclear weapons of mass auto-bio-chanical weaponsology.

Also, see Tags, cult.

Brilliant idea, well done. It's good to have all this on one page, I didn't actually know about the lengthier (#!, #>, #+) to begin with.

Modifying sig now
