In addition to the base uniform colour, look at the direction of combat, are they a threat to you? Are they looking at you or at the enemy? A TK in the back is pretty inexcusable.

Here's how I would handle situations similar to how you described. First, you shout out all suspicious contacts over VOIP with compass direction and 1-2 words supporting information, such as “Multiple contacts 140 far” or “Contact 140 ridge line”. You keep your rifle trained on them while a squad mate/squad leader checks his map or until you get the name tag appear, at which point you either call “friendly” or “enemy”. Squad leader then advises you if you should shoot, unless in the meantime, they open fire on you, but an initial contact report should not be treat as a signal to open fire. If its a friendly immediately stop pointing your gun at them!

If you are able to ID quickly, give the full description like “Enemy contacts 140 buildings 2nd floor” or “Friendlies at 140, check fire” Using a little team work and communication will add order to an otherwise chaotic situation.
