PR2 won't be able to portray insurgent situations properly without huge amounts of civilian influence, something that ARMA 2 and VBS2 have done, which are still quite small.

I think they just watched a bit too much Hurt Locker
I'm just gonna point to this thread that I made about the engineer kit, that involves EOD as well, in order to make engineers relevant again. |

Send infantry in for IED bait. I know, not realistic, not humane and so forth. But switch on, PR is far from being 100% realistic and PR2 will be the same deal. Players will (do) follow the path of least resistance for gameplay within certain bounds, which is a law that applies for all multiplayer games.

I'd love it if Grenade traps were destructable and the SLAM or a new model was brought back as a timed explosive to destroy most things, IEDs, Mines, Ammo crates, Abandoned vehicles, doors - like a supercharged incendiary grenade. Rifle specialist or even the officer would be a good choice of kit for it.
The only way to secure an IED ingame is to kill the placer and make sure no1 gets the detonator, so even with an EOD team INS still get their advantage in regards to IEDs, but the implacability of grenade traps and mines gets on my nerves a bit |

I think EOD teams are best deployed with the main coalition force, for example just going to random common locations for mines may be completely useless if no other BLUFOR ever go through the area. In this way it is just a waste of tickets and manpower.
I would rather see EOD teams attached to mechanised infantry squads or supporting heavy armour, where they can actively clear the way for these units. Indeed my favoured loadout for an armour squad on Insurgency is to have a two man tank crew with a combat engineer and medic manning a supporting Humvee. In this way I feel that they can be a valuable asset to a coalition team. |

EOD teams.
I saw a half ass EOD team on the hardcore server the other day. They were waiting for mines to be reported in, and while they were waiting they were doing donuts in a humvee. They had One combat engineer in there squad and another squad offered them the second combat engineer kit and they denied it. These EOD teams could work if The whole team were moving as one unit instead of all squads being all over the map all the time. I could easily see the EOD team leading the convoy and clearing mines in the convoys path. |

Ah yeah, I remember that, IT was only 4 people, so it was pretty much 28 Blufor vs 32 Insurgent.
I guess you can consider it a movie reference, but I got it from the EOD team on hardcore a few nights ago. |

I too really really want an EOD team in the game. I actually get the Combat Engineer kit and create an "EOD" squad occasionally. With the help of a medic to revive you if things go wrong and a small group of security, you can drive a logi truck or a humvee and scan the ground for IEDS.
Then once I see a mine, I disable it with a wrench. I've yet to disarm an IED, maybe because it's impossible? But isn't it possible to disable one with C4? After watching The Hurt Locker (which is unrealistic but very good) I'm kinda' inspired to play EOD in game. Heck, I might even sign up for the Air Force EOD and defuse bombs in Afghanistan. |
