Default Correction Mk 14 Mod 0 build

In response to a thread started that had models of what the dev referred to as a MK 14 Mod 0. [R-DEV]Eddie Baker started to make the correction before thread was locked, but I believe that the DEV KP still thought he was modeling a MK14 Mod. The obvious Navy designation of "Mk 14 Mod 0" is a dead give away, this is Crane acquired/developed NSW (SEALs) issued rifle. General rule of thumb, a Mark number for a rifle/pistol/knife/etc....usually means that NSW had it built or that SOCOM requested CRANE naval weapons to develop it.

The weapon that was depicted in the thread image more closely depicts a M39 Enhanced Marksman Rifle or a limited version of an Army Weapons Product Support Integration Directorate produced EBR (not designated MK14, army's version is a standard M1a/M14 that is placed in the SAGE stock), which at first glance looks a Mk14 Mod 0 EBR. The dead giveaway between a MK14 Mod 0/1 and a M39/"Army EBR" is the barrel length. Mk14 Mod 0/1 has an 18 inch barrel, M14/M39 has a 22 inch.

The MK14 Mod 0/1 front sight post is right above the end of the gas cylinder and the flash suppressor is forward of gas tube. M39 EMR has 22 inch, increased accuracy M-14 barrel. "Army EBR" was a standard grade M1a/M14 barrel. Both weapons systems utilize the Sage style Enhanced Battle Receiver.
MK14 Mod 1 issued changes to the buttstock (M4/AR SOPMOD/Crane style)and other areas, barrel length remained 18 inches.

Refer to pics, (1) Dev's image (2) Navy SEAL in Iraq w/ MK14 Mod 0, (yes it's a SEAL) (3) Marine Corp. w/ M39 EMR

A Seal in ACUs? That is very very hard for me to believe. I hate ACUs and if I could were anything else I would. SOCOM normally gets pretty free reign when it comes to kit so why would he chose to wear ACUs?

The Mk46mod0 in that picture is being held by the late Michael Monsoor, a Navy SEAL.

The SEALs in the picture, including Micheal Monsoor for SEAL Team 3-Delta Platoon were tasked with supporting regular Army infantry(503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment) and the Iraqi Jundi Army (1-9 Infantry)during operations in the Al-anbar province/city of Ramadi.

SEALs were part of the Direct Fire Support package which also included: 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment : 1-26 Mechanized Infantry. Isn't that awesome, a small number of SEALs can bring as much to the battle environment as an Armor Regiment.

One of the SEALs primary job in the Ramadi battle was to secure positions for FOBs, then provide Sniper Overwatch while the Army or Marine Corp Reg. Infantry moved in so that Engineers/Seabees could begin to build the FOB.

It's interesting to note, and speaks to level SEALs operate @, during the Battle of Ramadi the SEAL Snipers proved to be the predominate force of the engagement. Even the US Marine Corp, which boosts about producing the best snipers in the biz, was building mission profiles that depended on SEAL snipers. Army/Marine units where constantly requesting more SEALs. Army units would tell you they rather operate next to SEALs than with Army SF.

As for as the Battledress, most SEALs in Al-anbar would assume the BDU of whatever unit they were running support for that particular Rotation, Army/Marine/Iraqi. One of the main reasons being It was important for them not to look TOO important, meaning trying not to Look like CIA. We know what happened to Scott Helvenston and fellow Blackwater agents because they appeared to be CIA para-military. It also helped build report with reg. Inf. units. But to the trained eye it's simple to pick out the SEALs.

For more on the Relation between SEALs and Army/Marine Operations in Al-Anbar I suggest:

Not that I'm an Armour fanboy, or even from an Armoured background, but no way.

Ok, well yeah.......in no way am I saying "in general"/ Just think about it in contrast to the subject of Ramadi, Armor wasn't really a easily managed asset in the city.
