It should be possible to get this kind of information from a server to a separat programm.

PRSPY does already use these informations.
You can see there team in the 6th columm.
PRSPY - server and player browser and tracker for Project Reality - create a buddy list - launch PR directly

however when they are not separted is more realistic. In life if a soldier is 10 feet away from an insurgent and he tellsl him freeze that insurgent hears him. Unless he's deaf.

It seems like PR is taken less seriously if Mumble is in hand. Now sure you can have your fun times, but it just has some sense of goofyness sometimes.

On the other hand, it is a great tool if in the heat of combat. If you are pinned down, separated from your squad, and need that smurf medic to help you, then you can easily call for him over Mumble instead of text or the audible. It also helps keep a squad close together and breathing. The positional stuff is great just because it sounds different!

I guess what I have a hard time with is how mush of a benefit do I get for pressing 2 or so more buttons while in a firefight. I have to program them and set it up. If all this could be implemented further into PR then I would LOVE Mumble and use it every time. I know crews have been working on this, thank you, but it seems to have been squeezed pretty well. I guess I stand about 50/50 on it. Will fire it up and join a server to enjoy it, sometimes will not.
Voip is mandatory, so you will always have that mumble is just a bonus to the voip. I didn't choose the "2" key for my mumble, i chose "c" its right next to the "v" and "b" (default keys) for voip in PR. Plus i'm an excellent typist so i have it just right next door to what i normally use for voip.

I cannot play without mumble anymore

Mumble + VOIP = win

cannot wait for the next version of mumble if its going to incorporate some of the 1.2 vanilla mumble features

Negative if you play it like that its less realistic. Let me tell you some fun i had with it joined. Close to the end of the round of a match some of the other team surrendered. I was talking to them. Telling them no sudden movements or i will plug their ass lol. Told them to get on the grond and don't move etc... Now with the way you are proposing thats not possible. You'd have to shoot the unarmed man or he'd have no real ideal what you wanted him to do. I also made him lead me to his buddies or i'd kill him and he did.

I made a habit of having fun with it. If i come to a compound with known enemy in it. I say lol "Come out with your hands up, or i'll shoot" lol

Really the difference is.... the realism of it. Together is more real and more fun!!

mumble is not realistic as "voice simulator" volume can be adjusted so you can hear enemies further away. its more of a radio to me and should be used like that not the way RT mumble uses which imo causes alot of spam and stupidity even if admined.
also you can do the above by just typing it

Its not mumble fault if its used stupidly its the users fault. Just like it you get some tk'ers in a game its not PR's fault its the dudes that are doing it. If you play a round with serious players you will have fun. If you play a round with jokers you may not. Mumble or not.

Again fellas i will say there is a reason the dev's put mumble in your download. They were nice enough to suggest to you how you can have more fun in the game with it.

Distance and volume cant be adjusted so you can hear people further away in the PR mumble version.
