Default Getting around hardware lag

I recently stumbled upon a nice tool for anyone who has a low-end nivida graphics card called Rivatuner. its ATI Tray Tools for ATI cards but I dont' use them.

Its a registry editor that allows the user to get their video card to render even lower than the mininum settings for tpeople who want to play on the big/forest maps or simplly more performance.

[R-COM]Robbi already posted a dl link and mentioned it but I figure I throw in a guide to help those of us who are tech-impaired.

here's some pics of me using Rivatuner on Beirut

wow, empty base, can't miss anything here

now lets get going

The trees look like giant clovers

The everything's so smooth!

Before on lowest settings

After on Rivatuner

Even with the lowest settings it is still hard to pick out targets, its alot easier when every surface has only one texture to compare to (I find it easier on the eyes too)

Rivatuner starter's guide:
by Grenadetrap

WARNING: Don't mess with these applications, they can and most likely will screw up your hardware if you poke around wihtout knowing what your doing or if your not following the guide.

Step 1 - Download RivaTuner

RivaTuner v2.24c download from Guru3D.com

Step 2 - Install RivaTuner

Extract the setup file somewhere, double click on the setup file and follow the wizard.

Step 3 - Set up RivaTuner
Wait for it to compile your registry

Once this has completed you will get to the main RivaTuner screen.

Next, click the power user tab.

Then expand the "RivaTuner \ NVIDIA \ Global" menu. Enter a value in "LODBiasRange" of 15.

Go back to the main tab. Then click on the little arrow Under "Driver Settings" next to where it says "ForceWare detected." Click on the directX Symbol to open a new window (Pink in screenshot below).

In the new window, adjust the slider to where you want it. Put it on 0 to turn off any changes (Application will decide the LOD). 15 will be worst textures.

another thing you can try with rivatuner is forcing 1.4 pixel shaders though i have no idea if PR will like that. it works nicely with vBF2 though. though by forcing 1.4 shaders, you won't be able to turn on dynamic shadows/lighting or anything fancy like that.

Also you can use the Nvidia control panel to work with settings, if you set it to "performance" it will be fine.

wow...truth is I can't imagine how someone play like that?

Please don't get me wrong I don't wanna burn people who don't have needed hardware and people does not have to spend money for a game but..there is a but. My personal opinion is.. do not bother to play THIS game if you can't play it properly. Lots of people working on this mod. Giving their time, energy and resources. And truly they are making an awesome job. PR is the only game I'm playing. It is the only game worth to spend my time. And if I'm gonna spend my time on it it has to worth it

6 months ago I upgraded my machine JUST for PR. Since than I'm playing it with every setting on high. And I have to tell... it is totally another world. Now I know that actually I was not really into PR ever. With these settings (with the graphics above) its like watching the Avatar movie on black and white 17" TV or trying to race in F1 with an 20 y/o Ford Taunus.

Sorry if I offense anyone!

I agree with you. I currently cannot play PR because of the performance problems, but I wouldnt want to play it like that.
It would completely ruin the sense of immersion imo.

Is there now an option for "Enemy Cacodemon spotted!"?

Another thing to note is that the mipmap is being altered here, so if you are running a low resolution monitor like 1024*768 or something reducing this setting will have virtually no loss of quaility with some settings but will free up some resources. This is because PR's textures are now huge, some even 2048*2048, and other than when it's in shoved in your face you aren't going to notice it all that much. The texture resolution is reduced to 1/4 of the previous mipmap every time this is done so you can probably get away with more than absolute minimum.

nhancer is another good tool sorta like rivatuner. but its less "techy" and it seems to be more for upgrading visuals rather than degrade. but it can disable some things. and you should use it if you have a sli setup because nvidia's sli settings aren't always good. if your setup is beast you can enable supersampling anti aliasing and even combine it with multisampling.
