Its the creation of EA/Dice. Don't forget BF2 used to have only 3 armies. Its PR who also bring reality to factions. And as far as I see with 0.909 replacing MEC with much more realistic factions suitable to geography is going on. Their end is near

removing the MECs would ruin the feel for this game and the mod, also they could be using any gear without looking odd as others has said.
and many of us has taken a liking to this faction cause it doesen't have a specific enemy or ally and doesen't feel so stiff like other factions they are an excellent platfrom to counter practically anyone without any political reason. i mean how fun would it be if Coalition only faced real factions...........it would get pretty lame after some time they incorporate and use both western and eastern weapons vehicles and technology we haven't seen the end of the MECs and chances are they might get even better gear or just as good as the US. For ex in 85 or 86 the mecs had T-90s now they have T-72s as the mod progress they may get the T-90 back or an all new tank same goes with and that depends COMPLETELY on what the PR devs do they may listen to suggs (when that sec is open again) and implement them to make this long speech short the MEC is here to stay rather for better than worse. those of you who do not like the MEC being in this mod can just go play another mod or game. |

Just for once let the DEVS have a faction they can just go crazy with, all other factions in game they have to base off real world without much flexibility. Plus if you got rid of the MEC much of the weapons and vehicles they had would go with them. I think in the near future the DEVS will be giving the MEC the T-72M1M which hopefully means we'll be firing "Reflex" ATGM's and M1A2 Abrams on Kashan, and they'll be getting a command version of the BTR-60 for the commander posts, the MEC aren't going anywhere

I think it would be sweet to give the MEC an assortment of assets from different locals. Example: They would have T-90s, T-72, and maybe an M1A1 or Challenger in there. Since they are a coalition, they can have a multitude of different models for the same asset. Anyone else agree? Why or Why not?

Because it's already been decided that they'll use German (H&K) and Russian stuff, also if US and UK are fighting them in PR, I doubt they'd sell them their tanks.

Well, I guess its all in interpretation of who the MEC is. I guess in my mind the MEC is Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt (which Egypt and Saudi Arabia have American equipment). So like I said, its all in interpretation.

To get the same flexibility the MEC have, they would probably need to be broken up into 3 real countries: Egypt, Syria, Iran. Iran would require a shedload of new assets, but Egypt could mostly be done with existing assets, as could Syria. However, there has never been much interest in actually getting the work done, no matter how many of these "wtf is the MEC?" threads go up, so I don't imagine it will happen any time soon.
