some guy tried to dummy bomb once since we didnt have a lase available, premature bomb release...not cool. he accidentally hit the bomb release key with the edge of his mouse XD

Anything can be a weapon, anyone can be a threat. Never under estimate the combat ability of your opposition. He may seem weak and harmless now but even a dead man can carry a few pounds of explosives in his gut or deliver a decisive blow by rotting away in your water supply.

At best?
- Pilots were running sorties all round and weren't shot down a single time. Presence of AA on the target location was triple checked before CAS was called up.
- Pilots were coordinating with ground team leaders via Mumble. This made the strikes more frequent and precise.

At worst?
- CAS squad gets locked with 3 people: 2 pilots and 1 spotter with an SL kit. They ignored all requests for CAS and were playing their own little mini-game. No chat, no VOIP, just dead air (no pun intended).
- Asset wasting all round. Pilots do not have experience flying and make our air support nonexistent.

CAS is best directed personally in small locked squads with a spotter FAC relaying comms to the pilots as an audio filter. Having the pilots actually on the SL channel usually overloads them with unnecessary comms that their spotter should be listening to to inform himself of the shape of the battle.

CAS pilots are probably more efficient with themselves off of mumble (but with their FAC on it and the SL channel obviously), also due to the lack of z axis support in mumble and a bug where passing a certain height and you can hear everyone force centering. Not fun.

In 0.9 I had mainly good experiences with it. On 2 rounds of Silent Eagle we were able to destroy 1 or more enemy tanks by calling our local pilot using the in-game CAS request system.

In .87 generally infantry being idiots and not giving grids or telling us what it is when they laze, just spamming "Sending laser target now" over and over.

I've yet to fly CAS in 0.9. Hopefully it will be better.

I'm pretty sure the CAS request system has been revised, which is a godsend for A-10 pilots and the guys on the ground alike.

i remember that before .9, people were always spamming "LAZING TARGET", without actually lazing the target (you know, pressing fire). This meant i would swoop in, not find a target, abort, fly back to carrier and type: "press fire when using gltds to actually laze a target". This meant I would need a second run, by which time every AA around that area was manned and ready...
