(( TL;DR below paragraph three ))
I suck. Period. I'm always placing in the top 3 places on COD4 MW2 (360), I'm a crackshot in ArmA 2, I'm pretty damn good in Far Cry 2, and I'm a virtuoso OFP2 (360). But for some odd reason, I can't kill ANYTHING in Project Reality. The three different times I've played I've played the game the way I always thought it should be played. We took it slow, using whatever we thought constituted as military tactics (whether we've seen them from movies or we had ex-soldiers leading us is unsure), and I really enjoyed it. That's how I've always wanted to play games, and was always dissapointed when nobody played that way. However, when I finally get a chance to play this way, I can't kill anything. First off, I can never see anybody, but they always seem to see me. I'll be laying down in some grass, quietly and patiently scanning the horizon, when suddenly I hear an explosion and my screen goes black. Sometimes, I'll be running, see a guy, drop to one knee, take aim, and fire-- but I'll miss completely even though my sights are on him and he'll turn and fire off a spray that kills me in instantly. Sometimes, I'll be running and I get shot at, and my screen goes all blurry, so I hit the dirt and the moment it all clears up, I'm dead. Othertimes, I'll be the only guy in the 6 man squad to get taken out-- and I'm always the medic. So it seems that the only times I can ever get a kill is in a vehicle, in COOP, or with a grenade in a trench. The other times, I always play medic, and I'm pretty good at being a medic. Now I know it's nothing game wise, although the ACOG sights that I have to choose as a rifleman piss me off, especially in an urban environment. I've never to this day gotten a kill with the assault rifle scope. So it seems to be I'm not doing something right. Of course, I can't expect to be an expert marksman my third day playing (I never played BF2 for more than 5 minutes before PR, simply because that kind of gameplay doesn't make sense to me), but I expect to at least get some kills accidentally. But it seems even when I'm stationary in prone, and when my sights are lined up on the chest/back of a stationary enemy, my single bullet from single shot fires off a whole foot to the enemy's left. This, of course, alerts the enemy and he's able to turn, center his sights on me, and take me out in a single shot. Even when I do make the shot, it doesn't seem to even make him flinch, and he's able to turn and shoot me anyway. I'm just at a loss here. I'm confused. Looking at some videos, I noticed a lot of people are running on lower graphics than normal. Could me having the graphics up actually hinder me? Maybe not everybody is seeing the grass I'm seeing? My FPS is outstanding, and my computer is great, and my ping is always between 50 and 100 on the servers I play on. But it seems that I can never spot an enemy first, and if I do, they always manage to kill me before I can fire off a second shot. ((TL;DR)) So what kind of tips do you guys have for picking and properly disposing of targets? In the situations I've described, what am I doing wrong? Are there functions in game to simulate breathing or wind that I haven't calculated for? Should I aim up a centimeter or two to account for gravity? Just looking for some friendly tips and hints any of you may have for a total noob. I don't know any of the physics or game play functions built into the engine or coded in for PR. Just assume I don't know anything else beyond the basic functions of movement, stance changing, weapon switching, and pressing the trigger. Thanks in advance. |

Don't worry, you're not the only one feeling that way
I think one of the biggest things is knowing the map itself some of the players know the map inside out, which is probably why they could out flank you So i guess one way to kill more would be to play more and eventually find secrets within the map Personally, I get most kills with the AR because it's pretty much spray and pray Maybe you'd like to give it a try? I hope these two tips helped! |

Just be patient. I've been playing PR for about 1 1/2 years, and I'm still not that great.
Knowing the map does help a lot. Plus, you can usually get a rough idea of what the enemy will do. On PR, it usually takes a few seconds for the sights to settle in (like 6 seconds I think), so if you see him and he doesn't see you, take your time. Wait about 2 seconds between shots for the rifle to level back out. If your within 50m or so, switch to burst or automatic and let him have it. Not too sure on what else I can help you with, but these are a couple of pointers I got and they've helped a whole bunch. Other than that, just play, remember, it's a game and to have fun while playing. |

When it comes to engagements I usually use auto/burst for distances up to around 50-75m, getting bullets downrange to suppress the target and eventually hitting. You just need to learn how to counteract the recoil and there's no need to settle for accuracy, just crouch and aim. Past 75m it's too inaccurate so semi-auto is what you should use and you need to start settling your rifle. Wait 3 seconds minimum(5 for full accuracy), go prone if you can, take about 2-3 seconds between each shot.
Any target that is already prone will have an advantage at anything past short range so if he's engaging you when you start aiming in you will most likely die. So, if you see someone who's prone and aiming at you that is not a fight you want to pick. Maneuver and nullify the target's advantage in accuracy before you engage, It is extremely important to pick your fights. As for the mechanics of the game, there's a 5 second settling time(That gets reset if you go prone or up from prone, increases by 1 second for every second of movement up to 5 seconds), there's no bullet drop until 400m I think. |

You dont usually get kills as a beginner, well i didnt anyway. Especially if the server is good and the teams are organised but its like any other game practice and you become better by learning the maps and how to hit a target etc

Killing enemies is cool and fun, BUT REMEMBER: Kills don't always mean you did well for the team. Countless times me and my squad have ended up between 10-20 kills per squad but we have secured / defended some very important locations on the map for our team. And losing them would be catastrophic for the rest of the team. Anyway, knowing the maps helps a lot. Also knowing the game mechanics helps too, like Tartantyco explained earlier. Ultimately the only way to achieve better is to play and play and play. Good luck | |

All point of PR is not about who gets more kills, its about completing the objectives, helping your team to win the round.

90% of the kills anybody make are easy ones, when you're in a much better position than your opponent. So don't think too much about aiming (thou it does count), try to find good players and tell them you're new, but willing to learn.
Pretty much any vet will be happy to help a new guy if he really wants to learn PR. |
