You most likely forgot the bullet speed.
Aim in front of enemy when they move sideways relative to your point of view and just get a feel for the speed of the bullet by calculating the time between mouse click and bullet kick up dust near/on your enemy. There is one tracer round in every 5 shots(1st of 5) that you can use as a guide for shooting ahead of the enemy. Other times, you need to realize that facing someone more prepared(ex: someone already proned and is aiming at you when you are still running) than you will almost always result in your death. That is why AR is really powerful when properly setup, because prone+deploy = death to anything that AR guy can see/can damage(awesome accuracy+high ROF, and the suppression effect). Btw, you are supposed to run to a solid cover(deviation of elevation on the ground, solid wall...etc) before stopping and trying to recover from the suppression effect. Whoever makes that first accurate shot wins the firefight, so if your opponent has better accuracy than you, you can only flank, or take cover(for 5 sec) then lean out of cover a little(under 1 sec) to try to take him out with the relatively settled accuracy. |

Suppress> killing
Most engagement really happens with 5 or 6 guys getting killed in some cases a medic gets to revive the bunch. I go by the rule to always put as much metal down range as I can possibly do to keep the enemy heads down. Sadly most squad members dont understand that and purposely only shoot when they actually have a chance for a kill I have seen tons of AR guys just waiting to see the guys instead of keeping a continuous stream of fire. That makes me an easy target. Most of my kills are easy once when I see the enemy 50-200 meters away and he waits for something or we have set up an ambush, ambushes is so underrated in AAS and it has such a good effect on the target. Racked up 3 kills (in one encounter got 17 in the end) with the AR by hiding in Yamlia when a squad moved in you lit up the place where you saw their legs behind some bushes they did not stand a chance, for the first you have the moment of surprise voip is pretty clear because you have gone over it one minute before or longer, the squad ambushed will never get the information through their squad voip because everyone is screaming about enemy SW or W etc. If you can pick the fights your destined to get a good score kill death wise if the enemy choose their ground alot you will get hammered. If neither choose their ground(random encounter) or you know there will be an attack I prefer using 5 mags to much then 3 mags to little tbh. and those fights are more random of who gets out alive or not. But a good squad has of course a better chance to survive then an average or bad squad in a good squad I mean squad who keeps one hammering on teh enemy squad and just dont wait for a lucky situation where they can head shot. EDIT: Squads are the most important thing in this game with a squad you have 6 pair of eyes instead of one you have medic etc. Dont run around keep a low profile and try to get to cover or at least hold yourself into a wall and not in the middle of streets etc. |

Look up some guides on BF2 hitregistration, it's woeful, then look up "Random Deviation" and have a think about that. You are basically probably hitting them every time, but are used to games with good (hell, even passable) hitreg/netcode and a more intuitive system of inaccuracy than deviation.
All your problems are caused by these two things, and I feel your pain, keenly. It's very rare for me not to come top three in MW1/2 games, likewise I'm an excellent OFP and ARMA player, but in PR, my positioning on the scoreboard is pretty much random, going from #1 all the way down to the bottom of the server, irrespective of what I was trying to do that round. And it's not like I don't know a little about tactics, actually being in the military and all, but real life tactics, contrary to what most people in the PR community believe, have almost no place at all in PR and are more likely to get you killed than allow you to achieve an objective. PR is just a slave to BF2's inadequacies. |

Most of the bullets used in war don't hit anyone. Same goes for PR. You should also account for deviation so when you see someone, stand still for a few seconds, then shoot.

Nobody will become a good player alone and nobody is always on the top. It's all about teamwork. If you can't get a shot have your squad mates do it.
Just aim down your sights, take a deep breath and fire with short pauses between each shot. There's no other way. |

My best tip is find a couple of friends, get online, measure up 50/100/150/200 metres with the markers and fire off a few rounds using your friends as static targets. Literally, train on shooting. You can do it on any target but it's a little more amusing talking meanwhile and the player targets can report back when hit or missed.
This way you will learn a bit about how to shoot on static ranges. Don't just train on singlefire either, semi and full auto is nice to know how long distance you can reliable engage a target. Move up to CQB's, join a skirmish server and run some close fighting. Learn the spray&pray thing. As for terrain and people seeing you first, well, this is mostly a map and engine knowledge thing. Play to learn the map. BF2 doesn't render well at distances (that has changed a bit in the new 0.9 release I believe), mountains can make it look like you are levitating in the air while behind the ridge etc...But of course experience counts for a lot. Cover your mates and have them cover you. Patience, know when to lie low and when to run. Best tip. Good luck out there. Quote:

tip #1: have a mic and use the voip
join a squad, stick with squad, follow squad leader's orders and markers; if there are no orders or markers then ask squad leader for some. also: stick with rifleman kit for a while (10 hours of play). and: do NOT drive/crew any vehicles until you have practiced in training or co-operative mode. |

i make alot of maraculis kills, and peaple come up to me and go HTF are you still alive?
your best bet is to crouch, sight in, wait a few seconds, then fire... More or less, when the other guys do not know where i am, i treat my gun as a sniper rifle, i take it slow, i center on there movement, i scan to see other targets that might see me, i shoot a stationary target. if a squad is close to me, i have them open up from a nother location, and then i fire agian, one shot, stationary target. your best bet, if you want to kill, is find some good cover, like a hill or a wall, and crouch down behind it, then fire just over the lip, evan if they see you, there more likley to hit the obstical rather then you. My best advice, contrary to what most peaple will tell you, is TO grab the sniper rifle, go with a spotter to a good location, and practice with the sniper rifle, that is how i became good at one shooting the other team, i got practice with the sniper rifle, and that helped me with my aim. To help me with my reflexes while playing, i did stupid stuff... I would run past a tank in the open, and do my best to ruvive, i ran with bullets hitting all arround me, and eventually you almost get used to it and can cope with where it came from, and figure out the best location for cover. If you get shot at, scan the area for cover. Get to it, and scan for cover the other guy might be using, if you think you spot him, alert peaple, get more eyes over there, so he is suppresed, and move up with your squad to take him.them out. |
