IFVs are also great for troop transportation, which is good because IFVs just need cover when they are in constructed environment. These things are very effective, but their armor is light so you have to be careful.
Yes they are very powerful, but they are made of tissue paper. The soviets realized that, and decided to put a BTR-80A turret on a T-55 chassis, and made space for people to be carried around in it. Also put lots o' ERA blocks on it.

I had a great moment with a bradley recently. I was a driver in abrams and was taking the south village from MEC. Suddenly out of nowhere a t72 appeared and shot us. By the time my gunner found him and opened fire we already took a second hit. I bailed out before the abrams blew up and hid. An lone A 10 came in and blasted that t72 to hell. Problem was I was all alone in south village without anyone friendly nearby. I ordered my dead gunner to take an apc and come pick me up while I was going back to the bunkers.
We met almost near the bunkers and I entered the gunners seat, after that we were rolling to take the village again. My driver decided it would be cool to cross the mountains and not go around them. When we were at the top I noticed that MEC had a tank in the village along with an AA brdm and were already building an FOB right next to it.
So I switch to missiles fire one at the rear armor of the tank, and one at the AA,both targets destroyed without even seeing the shot. I switch to cannon destroy the FOB and kill the infantry that's left with my machine gun. We move in to the village and take it with friendly support from a littlebird .

So what's the best tactic you ask? Hiding behind something and hitting the enemy while he looks the other way!

Walls of text justifying the use of APCs in PR as Fire Support Platforms for Infantry in order to rush flags.
How many rounds are won in PR as a result of flag bleed, honestly?

I wrote my own wall of text including BOS's, a detailed overview of the considerations for the employment of APCs, IFVs and Cavalry, and a diatribe explaining, map by map, how it is more effective for APCs to act as armoured recce and cavalry, but then I deleted it all because it missed the point.

The point is that you will die, very fast in support of infantry, that other things can transport pretty much just as well or better, and will probably kill very little. It's a waste of an asset and it's done more or less purely in the name of "teamwork" for the sake of "teamwork".

You use APCs not for teamwork, but because infantry caps flags. That's the important part. Then, as soon as you're done with all this zerg rushing business you start roaming with the tanks and other IFVs to kill the enemy.

If you do it right, you can quite literally dominate the enemy. Infantry certainly do not do much to destroy tanks and other assets that cost lots of tickets, but they cap flags and they put the pressure on the enemy to make rash and dumb moves.

I disagree. I find that with the APC hanging back you can keep it alive for quite awhile: On Eagle we kept our BTR-80A alive till we capped the US main to neutral, and they were sitting in the airport terminal, then we got killed by an Abrams that noone on the team ever saw again.

Now, with the above in mind, how long would an APC last as a killing machine? Quite long, however taking into account what its going up against, it wouldn't last long. Enemy tanks, APCs, HAT kits, snipers lasing, unguided hellfires, which are, in most cases, absent from the infantry squad (at least mine). For example, on Ridgeline cap on Eagle we hid behind the hill sitting next to the APC with the engine off, and capped it. Now, if we didn't use it in our squad it is my assumption that it would be used for roaming infantry and light vehicle killing.

I find that on maps where mechanized squads work there is a lack of light transport vehicles that are fast. Another example is Lashkar Valley, on the spawn I expected my squad to be able to jump in a transport landrover, but there was just trucks which I would assume encourages the use of dismounts from the Warriors, but hey I didn't create the map so you'd have to ask whoever made it.

tl;dr APC's work with infantry, they only occasionally work as killing machines.

The bottom line though, is you need to be fast, and hit your shots. If you whiff on AT, they're going to kill you. And now that there are 3 tow's per map, the threat of AT just got that much more severe. I find the best BMP/Bradley crews are ones that are experienced, and have good aim. If you can't aim a gun don't use an IFV
Little off-topic here, but does anyone know where the whole "engine off" thing will be removed? Is it considered an exploit or a tactic?

Well hypothetically you can shut your engine off IRL in vehicles, so it shouldn't be removed really.

IRL I'm sure it wouldn't happen though.

It's a valid tactic to reduce noise signature.

Its valid, but it is a realistic tactic? Would armored units use it to mask their location?
