All the "be nice to the new guys" is cool and stuff, I do it sometimes myself.
But really, what is a new player really for? Yes, that's right... Human Shields.

I always try to help as much as I can if I see that they display a positive attitude and willingness to learn.

I got my friend into this game and set up a training squad on a training server to teach infantry and vehicle tactics. The squad filled up quickly with mostly new or newer players. We practiced tactics like suppression and messed around with all of the kits, then we moved on to vehicles as well. We were on for almost 2 hours just learning, and contrary to popular belief people seemed genuinely interested in learning.

Training servers worked well, and my friend and I went on to playing a round on Kashan and we did quite well I might add, until punkbuster kicked him for some heartbeats or connection packet error...

Help them out and keep them away from anything that flies.

As a new player myself i think it's great that the decent players of pr still stop off on the training servers every now and then and help us out. For example a few weeks ago i went in a build squad to get used to finding out where things should go in an FOB etc. We must have spent at least an hour just driving around in a convoy of trucks till we found a good high spot, then setting up all the raw materials then started building, then simply looked at it for a couple of minutes and went off to do it again.

Although I did the same when I was new, I try my best to hunt down and kill/tk the new guys that flip choppers over on the carrier deck.

On my first time flying i never flipped it... I was asking this guy where he wanted to go and looking at the map bewildered to where he wanted to go.

I finally found it and proceeded to fly into the ground, good fun! I did last about 30 seconds in the air so i was quite impressed... kind of.

Don't forget the manual is a good resource on how the game works. It doesn't always mean its how you play the game. Words tell how, they don't show how. Walk through talk through, soldiers.

Although I don't squad lead that much, from time to time I have met my own share of the newcomers into Project Reality.
At those times I ask few things like do they know how the medic system, yadayada work's through by reading the manual, if they took the medic / Automatic Rifleman kit. If they haven't, I suggest them to read it through since it teaches a lot about the gameplay and give the kit to another squad member that is likely to be a bit more experienced in PR.

But other then that, it's mostly just few hints and tips that might cross my mind during the fire fight and some of them grasped the idea in them.

It's always nice to see the "newbies" but bit disheartening to see the "noobs".
