I'm pretty sure I've heard of .50 cals being used on personnel. I forget where exactly.

Yeah, it could be done. We just don't need/want them in PR.

As a Canadian, I'm assuming that you know the longest range kill in history was performed by one of your fellow countrymen (he was using a .50 cartridge weapon).

norway uses the M82 as a common sniper together with nm149 (that is being replaced with hk417)

dont see why its so hard to have the rifle ingame

Its the mentality of 12 year old kids who play PR that ruins it for the rest of us, anything that's .50 caliber attracts noobs like you would not believe.

Make nukes, Not war

chuckMFd on 0.9- Can we trade back Assault on Mestia for Qinling?
[R-DEV]masaq - It's rather difficult to "apprehend" a Tu-95... you try persuading a 200-ton aircraft to land somewhere it doesn't want to, when it has enough fuel to get home and it knows you can't/won't shoot it down

there are so many vids in the net where .50 cal snipers are used against human. I saw vids were army ppl said it is used more often because it did a great job against hideing ppl.

But this disscussion is so old in PR, i think these kind of rifles never bring it back to game.

The game is better without Barret or KSVK

As you can see from Jaymz' post, those weapons are listed as "Anti-material" rifles. There is a reason for that designation, instead of "Anti-personnel" rifle.

In reply to everyone saying they are used against personnel, I'll point back to my own previous comment:

While these weapons are capable of anti-personnel use, they are not designed with that role in mind. Using such weapons against personnel is an uncommon situation such as extremely long range or when no other weapon is available. If a sniper had a choice of weapon platform to engage troops, they would choose a more precise and lighter-weight platform.
Quote:
The M82A1 is designed to provide commanders the tactical option of employing snipers with an anti-materiel weapon to augment the present anti-personnel M40A1 7.62mm weapon.
Quote:
The M107 provides a man-portable, materiel destruction capability to the sniper team and/or supported force and complements the anti-personnel precision fire capability of the M24 Sniper Weapon System (SWS). The M107, with a family of ammunition, enables sniper teams to employ greater destructive force at greater ranges and at a higher rate of fire that exceed the terminal effect capability of the M24 (7.62mm, bolt action) SWS.

The primary mission of this rifle is to engage and defeat materiel targets at extended ranges to include parked aircraft; command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence (C4I) sites; radar sites; ammunition; petroleum, oil and lubricants; and various other thin skinned (lightly armored) materiel targets out to 2000 meters.
As long as PR is incapable of permitting the proper employment of those weapons, they have no use in the game. If you need an anti-personnel rifle, there are already models present for every faction. Maybe one day we'll see the coding team figure out how to effectively use anti-material weapons, but until then I don't see them becoming available.
