the problem i have with the engine is.... there arnt any good demos really.. all i've seen is a bunch of really small rooms with people who run around like it's Counter strike with fancier, but quite dull shaders that are black and white to actually give any clarity.
=/ I just want a very nice looking PR2 "beta" (like maybe a small .5x.5km area of trees) with really nice looking textures and without the overuse of shiny shaders. o.o i know that'll take a while, but that's what i need to be impressed. xD =) Cause my current issue is that all the demos don't have that certain... well.. fluidness to them. I don't see headbob. I don't see weapons really moving. I see a bunch of stiff animations and a very shiny gun shooting at really reflective surfaces. o.O Nothing really... REAL looking. ._. maybe could someone at least do a cool rendering of a forest with some scripted explosions? XD My real worry is that tree's will look dull or shiny, or too shadowed. (meaning that they tried too hard to create detail, and in the end they created dullness instead of detail) If you don't understand what i'm saying... This ![]() vs... This other picture over here Sure... > > The cryengine IS the cryengine and it's meant to look pretty. But it doesn't make everything look like CLAY. ^_^ THEREs the analogy i was looking for. Everything in the C4 engine looks like clay. ^_^ Hopefully you can make it NOT look like clay. XD |

The bf3 engine will tie you down so you can't make any money from modding it, and you'll still be running into things being "hardcoded" because you don't have access to the engine's source code or any documentation. Bf2's modding support isn't exactly extensive, and the engine has numerous limitations, so what makes you think it'll be any better. Bf3's engine will have fancier graphics, and will waste network bandwidth on destructible environments. The c4 engine's graphics (after all it's always the graphics people focus on) isn't as bad as people make out and supports a lot of newer graphical techniques. People think it's bad because there haven't been any good graphical demonstrations. If anyone is interested there are some nice examples of what it's capable of in the c4 engine. WIP shots C4 Engine Forums • View topic - Another Foliage Thread Equally, the engine offers a shader editor which can create custom shaders - and since all mainstream games primarily use shaders to create their effects I can't actually see where any argument that it is a bad engine comes from. You get good support, a powerful engine which can be easily extended, and you don't have to faf around building your own engine from the floor up, or hack your way around hardcodedness when modding. | |

Our own engine = Unlimited possibilities because WE HAVE THE SOURCE CODE!!! Alot of ppl dont understand that. You can sit here all day talking about what the engine can and cannot do but in the end realize that we can change it as much as we want to make it do whatever we want and that is by far the #1 selling point. Get a clue ppl :P
