Well here's the kicker: The Insurgent weapons don't have scopes and are less accurate on the deviation side too. This means that it is still a lot better to engage from close range since you are then playing on a much levelled playing field rather than at a massive disadvantage.
So your argument is not really valid.
Besides, i think the tracers of ALL assault rifles should be removed, which would make it even again, while retaining the ISAF advantage at range and making firefights a lot more about finding and identifying the enemy.

Why would it kill the point of ambushing if you could fire from afar? Does every ambush have to be from 5m away? And firing your weapon would still give you away. There's the sound of it firing, the muzzle flash, the suppression effect on your target.
