Talking New mumble PR client?

Mumble has been down for about two days now. At first I could not find it in browse server list inside the client. I found it now but when i connected it said" Wrong version of mumble protocol (use the PR mumble client)." And I'm using PR 0.4 beta. Is it a bug or is it a new PR client coming? I know you guys are working on it, it's just that I'm excited.

PS! I don't play without mumble anymore. We all love it. Thanks

it was mentioned in another thread somewhere that 0.5 would be released when everything was sorted with the server, also mentioned that the autoswitching channel stuff is possible, the future is looking good

yes 0.5 will be released in not too distant future, currently Twisted Helix and epoch are sorting out some issues.

PR Mumble v0.5 will require all clients connecting to be using v0.5, that means ALL clients will be locked in with the same settings, meaning ALOT less headaches with players having incorrect settings, etc.

The major hurdle that still has to be overcome is players transmitting on global when they are not in the server yet, but its being investigated, once that is ready with auto switch, we will be advertising mumble on a much greater scale and will encourage as many servers to use it as possible as the primary external voice program.

I cant wait to see the Mumble server back up - PR isn't the same without it

I noticed another server had just 2 channels, rather than having SL channels. Unless there is a way to auto- switch SL to their own channel, then I think this is a better system, as it resolves a lot of problems.

If possible, can the Reality Teamwork Mumble channel be setup with just the 2 channels, and we will then bring in a rule, whereby only SL can use force centre.

-How about two channels plus SL channels?

Well what would be nice is for all you lovely public to get on it and try and make it fall over (all talk at once or something ). We want to try and narrow down why we were having problems with the audio disappearing before.

We suspect its numbers and the bandwidth each client pulls, but we would like to make certain that is the case before we 'nerf' it

atm there's too many problems.....some people cant change channels in mumble while playing PR as it causes crashes. Also ( although this shouldnt happen much ) people tend to become/resign from SL during the round, so the SL channel is hard to administer.

Mumble chat between the SL should be kept to a minimum really, so its no bad thing if the whole team hears what the other SL are saying occasionally on force centre. ( Having said that, I wouldn't be particularly bothered if froce centre was removed completely, as a lot of people are put off Mumble due to FC spam )

The SL channel is often doing the job that a commander should be doing. Id much rather see people commanding in PR, so we dont need a SL channel.

I know alot of the guys who play on the Reality Teamwork server would be happy to test it out - especially if we get to use Mumble sooner.

I don't know much about it but, is there anyways that if the BF2 Plug-in doesn't get the coordinates it would set them as if it was deep underground? Far enough to not hear anything from other guys talking on surface.

-space... If people can't change channels while in PR then how is making them have to switch channels for either team going to work? You don't know what team you're gonna spawn on. If you base it on people who can't alt-tab you're just going to handicap everyone else, those who can't switch in-game should just have to deal with it or get admin help for switching until autoswitch is in place.

-If SLs FC in the main channel everyone else will just start talking as well because they "just had the greatest idea" or something like that. And how are you going to police who's SL and who's not using FC? The idea of limited comms in main channel and SLs coordinating over the main channel is just absurd. It's not as if the mumble discipline is all that stellar...

-The reason why COs aren't around is because they serve little purpose. The "big picture" simply isn't big enough right now and SLs simply have a better idea of what's going on. Until some major changes are made to the mod that validate the presence of a CO it's usually just more of a hindrance right now(Especially when they touch my lurvely markers. Get your hands off my markers, you murderer! ).
