No solution is perfect at the moment as Mumble does have its limitations. Force centre in general is a PITA, and personally I think disabling it would be fantastic, and would encourage people to keep using Mumble.

SL should be communicating via the commander, and if there is no commander, then Id prefer they use text tbh. It makes life easier, and removes annoyances from the game.

If you write a list of the current problem/annoyances with Mumble, then I think you'll find that having only 2 channels, and no force centre, will solve many of them.

I'm also hoping that as Reality Teamwork becomes more established, hopefully the commander position will be filled more often ( though I'm probably being overly optimistic )

Yeah, tbh ur right

If REMOVAL of FCP was implemented in .5 and then returned when it was controlable I would support that change.

As we've said so many times, Mumble works in tandem with vBF2 VOIP. So if u need intersquadleader coms you can use the commander if he is there. Or you can do what I love doing and having a squad leader meeting!!!! DDDD

Everyone just stopped moving in the server once out of the shock of awesomeness on OGT iGi once when I said "squad leaders meeting in the Trenches in 5minutes.

I like having only one main channel (same for both teams).

This reduces spam, you can't say: "Squad 2 support squad 3,6 on south bridge" if the enemy can hear this. Lets keep this to the squad leaders and their channel.

It is fun to talk to you enemy om mumble while you are seeding the server (example RT mumble server). We have had some epic fights with hostages etc.

Hearing enemy talk is part of real life, see youtube video, why not in game. If you want to keep your plan secure don't talk about it on the doorstep of the house you are about to assault.

yea, thats is the only time that being able to speak to teh enemy is actually gameplay relevant.

Once I was on a building and some US dudes were shooting at me when I was civi, *best Arabic accent ever* "Don't shoot! I am Achmed the friendly civilian!!"

a burly texan accent replies "Get ur ass down here!"

maybe mumble can understand if you have a civi kit (or a pilot kit?) and let you speak to the enemy.

lol true - things like that are fun. Maybe if the next version mutes joining players, and everyone needs to run 0.5 version ( meaning they cant hear the whole battlefield ) then just one channel is the best option? I really think force centre needs to be turned off though - because many people wont use mumble due to the spam.

^

Don't forget the all important battle cry 1 sec before you blow up that APC.

BTW TG has two channels, but a lot of the time only one is used (by both teams).

I stopped using mumble because of the voice spam and because i needed
to use three different voip keys.
Additionally, voice on three channels at the same time is totally confusing.

At least get rid of the center channel.

if the center channel was removed you'd get more spam...not less...

Yeah - I hear that time and time again on the RT server when Im trying to get non-mumblers to use it.

So the general consensus of this thread, is:

Mumble should have one channel per game server ( and maybe a waiting room )

Force Centre should be disabled, so there is only local mumble chat, and one key

We need more commanders in PR

Tactical Gamer used Mumble like this

Tactical Gamer Team 1
---------------------
Squad Leaders team 1
---------------------
Waiting Room
---------------------
Public Team 1

Tactical Gamer Team 2
---------------------
Squad Leaders team 2
---------------------
Waiting Room
---------------------
Public Team 2

We did this because we wanted to limit the amount of "i hear the enemy talking on our east". As I and others believe that if you are scared to use mumble it defeats the purpose, as everyone just starts using squad chat before an assault. Having the two teams separate encourages more use of mumble for large inter-squad formations.

As far as force center goes TG has two different ways that we use this. First is via the SL channels. All SL either move themselves or ask an admin (me) to move them to the correct channel at the start of the round. Force center is then used in a small controlled area where it does not disturb the masses. Our second way is through the use of TeamSpeak. "you use TS, Mumble, and Squad Chat in game?" Yeah I end up being the squad RTO. TS has been a corner stone of TG for years now. Think of it as your second force center position. APC to M-Inf coms, direct line to CAS, things like this are what I use TS for.

Hope this explains why TG had 2 channels with multiple sub channels.
