Guys the thread is about teamspeak let him talk about it, no need to start an argument here.
I agree Cassius, any voip program that allows squad leaders to communicate will make the team and gameplay much better. Everyone is excited about mumble right now because its under active development, its open source and adds the 3d positional, whereas teamspeak has not released a new version in many years, but any voice program is a good addition, whether its ts, mumble or vent. |

The commander's already relatively superfluous in the game, and with extra VOIP options (which, I know, are helpful for promoting teamwork and gameplay co-operation) his liaison duties are made 100% redundant.

Also I disagree with the commander being superfluos to the game. In my experience even on a good server despite the squads having a lot of insight, they cooperated when they happend to be in the general area, but getting a convoy going or the like takes a CO or somebody who fulfills that role on TS even if he did not actually apply.

If mumble can radio the way TS can we do not need TS no more, except for the fact that for some people (myself included) mumble does not run properly, slowing the system down.
But yah, if TS is underused we might get a similiar problem with mumble. |

Agreed Cassius, TS is muchly underused and can turn the tides of a game on a public server.
Too true, a lot of people mute their TS once they're on mumble but TS still has its advantages over mumble. When all 3 systems are used together, it's soo full of win. |

VOIP - In-squad communication at long distances (mostly orders)
Mumble - In-suad communication at short distances, Between-squad communication TS/Ventrilo - In-clan communication And all fits perfect. Think of VOIP and TS/Ventrilo as a radio and Mumble is your characters voice (with Force Center - radio too). |

In mumble, go to Configure / Settings / Shortcuts and then Force Center Posistion, which will allow you to talk, where ever you are.

Yeah the only problem in mumble, I think, is that when you use the "force center position", everybody on the channel (including enemies) will hear you. It would be like those dumbasses (joke) that use the global chat to give enemy position or team oriented details.
I like hearing enemies but I think that having 1 separate channel for each team would be better (keeping the squad leader channel, which is awesome and is the “radio channel”) That way, the only reason to use the bf2 VOIP would be to speak to squadmates who are not on mumble or far on the map and to the commander. No need for ts or vent anymore. A good trick that I read somewhere on the forums is to set your bf2 voip push to talk button to the Mumble shortcut "push to mute". That way, when you use the bf2 voip, mumble is muted and people on your squad won't hear duplicate coms. |
