I wished commander would be more often be present, VOIP with the commanders ability can be a devastating weapon, but not many realize that that fast informations can turn the tides of battle.

Information is the key to everything, the faster its transmitted the faster u can make decision on it

I agree that you have to make the commander position essential in term of gameplay but the Devs also need to give incentive to players to play as CO.

In exemplae, the famed Arty Strike in bf2. It is anoying as hell when you play as infantry but so much fun from a CO point of view.

Im not saying it has to be like vanilla. But the Devs have to find a compromise between realism and fun.

The more things added to PR like the importance of APCs to a squad, logistics trucks, supply crates etc, the more teamwork will jump from simply a SQUAD level to a TEAM level.

What we saw in previous versions of PR technically wasnt teamwork for the most part. It was SQUADwork. The SQUAD worked together but for the most part[obviously there were exceptions] the team didnt do much as a whole. Fightings always been scarce as its been two squads against one another... What I cant wait for is entire teams using comms with their commander along a battle line, getting ordered to pull back, flank, hold up while Bravo flanks or fakes, etc.

I think THAT day is coming very soon to PR, and I can't wait. The inclusion of the APC kit system and the logistics trucks already took us great leaps closer... Just gotta get the commander more involved, and get people more exposed to the greatness a commander can be

Oh, and *edit* basically what Fuzz said, didnt read his post til just now
This all sounds good, but I don't think it will happen until you let the commander outside of the box. The main reason people don't play anymore is because nobody wants to sit there in the command jail.

commanding in pr 0.5 rocked were you could be a commander and 1337 spec ops behind the lines

whats the deal now? you gotta stay in one place? or you still get to roam around and help out with the team?

But most of the time you don´t have to use this program with 31 other people you never met before, who may not even speak your language or simply don´t want to be there.

That to me just means they don't really want to be the Commander in the first place.

No it means they don't really accept that Commanding is interesting or efficient when you can't leave your box to do it. A commander cannot leave his cardboard home without stopping his team from building FO's. Frankly, doing nothing but logistics work, and acting as little more than a phone/telegram operator is by no means an enthralling experience, particularly with the long gaps in between when things actually need doing.

When PR gets more maps like Qwai that have substantial and functional asymmetry where strategic vision and coherent team wide tactics are needed, commanders will be more important. At the moment, the overly symmetrical and slow nature of PR stifles the need for an interesting command role.
