As commander, you NEED TO COMMUNICATE. Failing to do so, will only make people angry.
"squad 1, this is command, come in, over"

"*silence*"

"squad 2, this is command, come in over"

*timbleweed passes the command post*

"squad 3...."

etc

then eventually

5 squads will shout at once

Sq 1 "I WANT JDAM"
Sq 2 "I WANT JDAM"
Sq 3 "I WANT JDAM"
Sq 4 "I WANT JDAM"
Sq 5 "I WANT JDAM"

After playing a few hours as commander, I can't be bothered anymore unless I am on the iGi server, with iGi squad leaders. (but then we pwn the other team too hard and the server depopulates)

approximately 1/5 rounds of being commander are fun and productive.

if the commander or the SL is guilty of not working together, it wil mostly be the SLs fault.

Sounds to me that Danny did fine, and that a SL went nuts on him with no provocation.

Every leader needs charisma. If your voice is sqeaky as a 9 year old (no offense to 9 year olds here if there are any), then people may not take you seriously, not saying that is what YOU sound like. You know what I mean.

If squad 1 doesn't listen, then there is always another that will. If not, you're playing in the wrong server, go find another one that accepts teamwork.

First start off, explaining your plan. SL usually do not like having you tell them exactly what to do. They rather not listen to you.

Instead of saying "Squad 1, you need to attack here!"

Say "Squad 1 you need to stay here and defend, because squad 3 is moving out to assault."

This is your role as commander because there are no directly COMS between Squad 1 and 3 leaders. And the teamchat is tricky.

I can stay here all day explaining how to do everything, or you go try this method and see how it works out. As commander you ARE NOT the boss, in fact, you play somewhere between a leader and a support role.

If you can't even get to the point where you can talk to the SL without fear of interrupting his coms, or finding out if he even understands english or whatever language there is simply NO REASON to remain as commander.

And in the last 5 rounds I've commanded, thats exactly what happened.

In fact only two squads responded to me - an iGi squad led my Super_Timo and a transport squad lead by Sgt Joker

and guess what? that was during stress testing, all the people there were in well known clans or were Devs/mods etc.

Its just not worth the effort.

This thread isn't about if its worth it or not. Its about how the team responds to a commander and how a commander should lead.

Worth it or not, it your own opinion, no one is forcing you to be commander, neither does the team need one.

exactly, people either get pissy at a commander or don't repspond...which is what I was saying.

No1 forces me to be commander, but as you ahve mentioned there is no SL-SL VOIP, therefore the commander position can theoretically result in a team becoming more efficient and win more easily. So from that perspective, a team can't be without one- ignoring the commander abilities.

According to DEVs, commander is not necessary. They designed it this way by allowing SL to place FOBs without a CO. CO only makes things more efficient, if CO is competent.

Can't blame the squads for everything. CO needs to be competent first.

well i was playing basra when this chap(OP aka-Danny) decided to command. and he was horrible....took for ever to accept build orders, i would call in an apc position and it would get the infantry marker on the map, call in "hey commander...tell squad 3 they got an apc inbound to their location....." no reply..."commander you got a mic?......" no reply "commander can you hear me?..." no reply. all i see is text saying he's not gona fire mortars on infantry....well if the apc doesnt sit still, mite as well use it on a enemy rally or firebase like we tried...to no success cuz we have to type and all that...and it was just a hassle and would of been better off without a mic-less noob commanding and thus the kick for not resigning would be my guess....i commanded for 3 rounds today...nobody seemed mad at me and i think i even improved team coordination between squads...coordinated rides and suggested tactics to certain squads...provided valuable intel and gave great support. what more could you want out of a commander.

and then i was commanding US team on insurgency, squads didn't have problem except one squad

and then i got kicked by admin the reason say that i make people mad but i don't think that i made people made except one squad leader

but what so bad with commander? atleast i was commanding and in most servers
there is no commander.

maybe its because i don't have a mic, but i don't really need a mic, i don't need to give info so fast like reporting infantry units etc(thats job for squads and not the whole team gotta know about it)
and if they want to report about an cache its better to be on chat cause i don't always understand on the voip or hear
You need to find a good server, where teamplay is valued and what the mod is about, not where people bored with vbf2 play a mod they hear is supposed to be good.

Not everybody who plays the mod really embraces what it is about, which is kind of silly, because you negate yourself of the strong points of the mod, while enduring its weaknesses.

Nooooooo then you will get tards who place it any where except where it's needed.

comanders are good for relaying messages and imo yes the mic is important cos when in a fire fight i don't always get time or chance to read where as i can always listen.
as for the over zealos admin who kicked you ?? maybe he spent too much time bunny hoping on karkand to know what team work really is !
