This is so irritating and completly unpredictable. I don't know how realistic it is.
I'm hovering on the corner of the map in Muttrah, confident that I'm in a safe zone then all of a sudden BEEP BEEP BOOM. Someone flared, and the Anti Air missile missed them, and then hit me. This has happened so many times. This should be fixed I think =/ |

Furthermore, since the PR maps are greatly scaled down, it's only fair the range of the SA-7 should be scaled down as well. After all, its a short range, low altitude missile. Edit: ALSO I'm reading that infarered, heat seeking missiles like the SA-7 have a field of view of only 1-2 degrees, so it swerving to hit another aircraft is even more unlikely. | |

The IR seeker of warhead has only limited 'sight' in a nose cone, not to mention the possible laser measured close-range detonation modes and 10-15 second after-launch self destruct times. The gas (Argon for example) that is used to cool the seeker to make it possible to lock on targets is usually 'injected' at the launch zone, so the capacity of selecting and finding another target on flight instantly is significantly lower.
Realistically, It is highly unlikely that once a IR missile has been launched it will find another, real target. The missile doesn't have 360' sight and maneuverability. But I suppose this is the way BF2 engine will handle things. |

Most missiles in PR implement lead pursuit in real life anyway, trying to intercept the target instead of going directly for the biggest source of heat available. The guidance systems are relatively simple in such missiles, using proportional navigation, meaning the missile tries to keep the target on the same bearing as it flies for the intercept point. If it can't do that, it goes dumb and eventually self-destructs.

Do the missiles detonate when they hit flares?
