Yep I agree with 77SiCari077. And also dont forget that they are a company that just want to make money and dont really care about the customers. Yet that is. According to my boss the future of the game industry will be more about service (subscriptions) instead of purchasing a game in the store. In Korea and Japan they already only distribute games like this because of the huge piracy levels (he says)

And one last thing: Its not EA that is making it. Its DICE.

Not saying it's easy, but do you remember the bf2 demo on which numbers of >64 were possible?

Yes, and iirc this decision was made because server performance wasn't up to par.
I don't think there is any reason to be as pessimistic as some of us are around here, especially since DICE hasn't been the not co operating party some companies could be/are.

I support it but I have my doubts. Firstly i'm not sure the BF2 engine can handle the extra players. 64 is most likely the limit because computers work in 8 bits and 8x8 is 64, increasing the number of players means changing quite a bit of the core.

They may also not agree because with a max of 64 players on each team it keeps the minimum requirements lower, and also the server requirements. An extra 64 players would definately slow it down (more assets, more players for the server to calculate) and it would also mean a players internet connection would need to be higher.

Nonetheless, We shall prevail!

If they cannot do it for bf2, maybe they'll do it for bf3 if enough people ask for it.

They wont listen anyway, theyl just say "It is killing the server to have more that bla bla bla bla" and some other crap...

But every things possible...just look at the MMO's they have more that 64 players and dont crash (i know the difference between a FPS and MMO so dont flame me)

Signed. This needs to happen. Although I doubt most servers will be able to handle the load, at least the option will be there for those that can.

Ummm... Most computers these days run a 32 bit or 64 bit OS. Bytes have 8 bits.
Also the number of bits an OS has associated with it only affects things such as memory handling during a cycle.
The amount of bits an OS (And its hardware) can handle is a multiple of 8, a bit by it self is useless since it uses the binary system and is either a 1 or a 0 (A bit associated with the value 0 is off, meaning that no electricity is flowing through its switch, a 1 on the other hand is on and has electricity flowing through it]) which by itself is meaningless. However when combined with other bits in a byte, we can use the combination of those 1s and 0s to create numbers, letters and other symbols (things like colours are usually a combination of bytes though previously 8 bits were often used for colours [it allows you to pick from 256 colours]). If you want to know anything else about it look it up or something.
I can guarantee that it wouldn’t require massive amounts of changes to the core to increase the amount of players in a server. This is because it was designed for more players but was limited to only 64, so it is a case of just removing those limitations.
Worst case scenario would involve editing network code, object and player handling methods and other elements such as that, but luckily that would only be the case if the program was limited due to computational reasons/memory handling methods not supporting more players which we’ve heard isn’t the case.

Exiled.

How awesome is this weapon? Even the elevation knob and magazine have rails.

I'm damn sure that this is possible with BF2 engine. Actually, of course it is possible. But to do this, engine must be modified. :S
