I know some of you are trying to help, but please do not guess. It is confusing to others who are trying to understand how something works.
Sniper Rifle Settle Times: Per shot: 7.937 seconds Each time you fire the rifle, its cone of fire is instantly maxed out. It then takes 7.937 seconds for the cone to go slowly narrow to its minimum. The minimum cone of fire (minimum deviation) depends on your stance and whether your scoped in or not. As of PRv8, firing while unscoped yields a huge cone of fire making the weapon useless therefore the weapon must be fired while scoped. When scoped, firing while standing/crouch positions has an effective range of 250 meters, and firing while prone has an effective range of 1,000 meters. Note: It is not necessary to always wait the 7.937 seconds in order to hit your target. That is the maximum wait time based on its maximum range (1000 meters). If your target is only 500 meters away, you only have to wait half the time (4.0 seconds) between shots since the cone of fire has narrowed enough to hit a target at that range. Walking/Crawling: 7.937 seconds Walking/crawling/strafing will instantly max out the cone of fire. It then takes 7.937 seconds for the cone to slowly narrow to its minimum. The cones of fire are identical to that of firing (see above). Mouse movement / Tracking: 1.667 seconds The faster you turn, the faster the cone of fire increases. The rate at which you can accurately track targets is about 3x faster than the second hand of a clock; about 45 degrees within 5 seconds. In simple terms, you can hit any moving target as long as it's at least 50 meters away. To max out the cone of fire, you would have to rapidly turn 180 degrees within 1 second. If you do max out the cone of fire, it takes 1.667 seconds to reach its minimum. Breathing Sound The breathing sound does not affect your deviation in any way. Its only purpose is to serve as an 8 second audible count and is no different than if you set an 8 second egg timer each time you fired or walked/crawled. |

I have my own theories about why deviation is so screwy, but they're next to untestable. I think it comes down to the server measuring deviation loss by ticks, and changes in lag while "waiting" for shots that results in the server not thinking you've waited for as long as you subjectively have.
I don't think I could explain what I mean properly without some kind of screwy diagram. |

I can confirm there are some problems with the sniper rifle. Played a Kashan skirmish with it. I fired some stationary prone shots without mouse movement, leaving 2 seconds at the end of the sound clip before firing. Misses by as much as 2 meters at 300ish meters. Targets weren't moving, should have been headshots and others center of mass shots. All with 30 ping, settings handled by BF2 Hitfixer 1.41. All misses.
I got more kills with my pistol than my sniper rifle. |
