Ah ok...that's news to me. I thought it was strictly USMC. Will the other forces be more pronounced in later versions then? Cause as it currently is I see most the emphasis on the Marine Corps for "standard" stuff, and SEAL's for "special" stuff. Will the Army (weather it be general or S.F.) and Air Force (weather it be general or their version of S.F. - commonly known as PJ's) be introduced and noticeable?

Yes, PR is introducing a whole US Army faction to be in certain maps where the Army would be more likely to operate than the Marines. (non-coastal maps)

The way it breaks down is ground inf/vehicle is Marine/Army - Coastal Assistance (Air transport, carrier support) is Navy - Air assets are Air Force

With only a couple vehicles and a static ship representing the Navy, if we can get specops to be a limited kit enough for one squad only then I think it should be the "SEALs" but will most likely not be named anything other than "special ops" just to avoid the annoying tear-filled forum posts about "why aren't they delta??!?!?!waaaahhhh!!!"

Although I would like to see them use the SEAL soldiers from SF for the special ops kits...

So I'm gonna pick your brain. Aside from the fact you'll soon be a SEAL, why do you think they should depict the SEAL's over Force Recon, Air Force PJ's, or even Green Berets?

I swear to God there was a Youtube video of it, but I can't seem to find it
Don't think It'll ever be released either :/
I followed it for a while. Only 1 of the 3 are still working on it. The mods were about to lock the thread until they proved they were serious about it... Everyone believed it was a joke.

Basically, the SEALs operate with all branches of service. They'll operate with the Army, or the Marines. The Air Force's Combat Controllers usually don't do the types of missions that would be created in PR. They're usually involved in the rescue of other special operations units.

Army Special Forces have their own unique tasking, and rarely find themselves in situations where they would need to assist the USMC in a combined assault. In fact, it's even rare that they go out with any larger unit at all. Rangers, usually.. if at all.

Marine Force Recon, while being the primary special operations unit of choice for the USMC would not be doing missions for the Army or in direct correlation with the Army. Pretty much the two like to keep to themselves.

Navy SEALs are currently the only, broad spectrum special operations unit that operates on a regular basis with all branches of the military. At some time or another, everyone has worked with everyone, but the SEALs do it consistently. This way, in-game.. they can be used cross USMC faction AND with the upcoming US Army faction as well. So instead of creating two separate "specops" for each group.. one Force Recon and one Delta/Green - SEALs can be used in a neutral fashion while "balancing" the representation of each service in PR's combined depiction of the US Military.

At least that's my thoughts on the subject. I'm not a DEV. Take it for what it's worth.

Wasn't me.

The only American SOF unit (I don't know too much about the Brits) that would make any sense ingame would be Rangers, they're light infantry and they get tasked with Direct Action missions more than any other SOF unit. However, the American side is USMC and that would be even weirder to have Rangers fighting with Marine Infantry as opposed to the Enduring Freedom lookin SF guy that's in game now.

Many of the skills that Special Forces are so highly trained in (observation, intelligence gathering, logistics, communications, fire support, training and advising foreign armies, linguistics, knowledge of world cultures etc.) don't come into play in a fast paced tactical shooter like PR. And it's pretty much the same with Force Recon, lots of specialized skills that don't fit into FPS's. Navy SEALs might make sense on maps that have coastlines and rivers but I wouldn't be feelin them on land ops.

Some of the descriptions in this thread make it sound like SOF units go in fighting right alongside the infantry. It happens sometimes but in one book I just finished reading for instance, the Delta teams took long hard treks up to Afghan mountain peaks and did nothing else but spot enemy positions and coordinate effective close air support missions for 101st and 10th Mountain troops inserting into blocking positions down in the valley. That's more in line with how they fight in conjunction with conventional forces.

At the moment, "USMC" represents US forces in general. I agree that it would be akward to have Rangers fighting alongside Marine infantry, though.

Anyone remember Deuce6? He was in just a regular Stryker brigade and I'm pretty sure he worked alongside SEALs and other SOF.
