Did my conscript service in the Swedish Air Force as a firefighter/Rifleman. Applied for going abroad with the peacekeeping units in Kosovo and Afghanistan but didn't make the cut.

Anthony Lloyd, himself a former soldier in the British army and a Northern Ireland and Gulf War veteran:
"The men inside (the APC) might have been UN but they were playing by a completely different set of rules. They were Swedes; in terms of individual intelligence, integrity and single-mindedness I was to find them among the most impressive soldiers I had ever encountered. In Vares their moment had come."

no military experience however i did think about joining the british sea cadets in my teens but thought better of it because of my bad experience in scouts (i went once and all we did was raise the union jack and tie knots) and because of the type of person who went into the cadets (people who do what they are told regardless of whether they agree with it or not and regardless of whether the person giving the orders deserves respect or has earned their position)

i would only have caused trouble if i joined up anyway, like trying to start a union for soldiers. (i would have been kicked out pretty quick lol)

playing games like PRMM is good fun and i like the team spirit, real war isnt and should be a last resort. (and only fought with volunteer armies who can opt out any time they stop agreeing with the cause or for whatever reason, thats democracy for you)

Also, Why'd you put liberated in quotes (asking though I already feel I know the answer)?
Thank you Outlaw! Well.. I've read some stories about that "liberation". That's why But I think you already knew that...

...I wonder if it's because they have a military background and can easily adapt to this style of gaming...
Personally, this style of game (tactical, realistic) is something that I can relate to, but is purely recreational. I'm quite fine with allowing other players to get inventive with their tactics, just as long as nobody takes the game too seriously. I play for fun, and hope my squad mates are enjoying themselves as much as I do. For me, that's really the point.

I did the mandatory military service in Sweden. It consists of three different levels. One is for privates and is 7,5 months. The second one is for squad leaders who get the rank Sergeant after completing the 10 months. Their last active rank is Furir. I did the one for platoon leaders, which is 15 months. My last active rank was Sergeant, but upon completing it I was appointed Fänrik.
This calls for a short comparison of ranks, this is in no way the official translation, just my estimates:

Sweden: USA:
Korpral Corporal
Furir Staff Sergeant
Sergeant First Sergeant
Fänrik Second Lieutenant

I did my service in the armoured infantry as a commander of a CV 9040 (http://www.army-technology.com/projects/cv90/cv903.html) platoon.
