I know the main problem with fallujah, from what I've read, is the annoying inability to step up the sidewalks.
I've been busy in 3ds max and made a new set of pavement pieces to adress this issue and to add paving love to future PR maps.
There are drain pieces, parts where trees have damaged the concrete, sloped driveway pieces, multiple angle corners and central reservation sets.
It should make the boring pavements more varied and realistic.
Now is the long part of replacing all of these in fallujah, sure could have done a simple find & replace job with altered collision meshes of the concrete blocks, but i think you'll agree these are more suitable. There will also be several other fixes and additions to the map.
Quite a dull subject I know, but hopefully the gameplay will be improved.

this is not Fallujah just a test map to try the angles

as you can see the green slope is the player collision, notice the sharp corner on the existing piece which causes the current issues.

so now just to replace all the old ones and alter the terrain accordingly. Fun!

Getting stuck on sidewalks is an age-old complain by BF2 players. Glad to see it's finally being addressed.
(I mentioned adding invisible slopes like that to sidewalks in a suggestion thread a while back. I was told that it would be prohibitively difficult to do. I thought the comment was bs at the time and thanks to [R-DEV]duckhunt's work, I have been proven right.)Posted 09-19-2009 at 09:01 PM by sickly
